Concourse House – What Concourse House?

As Liverpool continues to celebrate a decade of amazing success since being announced European Capital of Culture, we look back on our job to help make Liverpool look great back in 2008.

The plan was to make Liverpool have a lasting impression on tourists and visitors. Part of the plan was the Look Of The City programme which involved wiping out grot spots and disguising construction sites with artwork.

City eyesore Concourse House, a 13-storey tower, once voted Liverpool’s worst grot spot was derelict waiting demolition as part of multi-million pound improvements to Lime Street station. The problem was the demolition was not going to take place before the Culture Launch Party. This was when GESS was commissioned to mask the building from view with a full wrap.

Concourse House stood over 40m tall and due to its position is exposed to extreme weather conditions. At the peak of the project, GESS had over 20 crew members working together to install the wrap, which was over 3300m2 and weighed over 1250kgs not to mention the 18 tonnes of steelwork!.

Despite the challenges, the team met the deadlines in time for the Culture Launch Party. The wrap certainly had an impact on helping Liverpool look great for 2008!.
